Sophia Robles – Fillies
Sophia had a great week with the Fillies 6U. She had a hit at every bat and a few made it to the outfield! On defense, she was a strong catcher and was able to block pitches by dropping to her knees. She is someone her younger teammates look up to and is always willing to help. Great job Sophia!
Abby Aldrich – 9th Island Bandits
Abby has been working hard at every position we’ve put her at. She does not lack confidence and plays every position in full stride. Pitching is no exception to this player who is new to pitching, as well as softball. She found a way to get a few strikeouts and a double at the plate to help her team find their first win. She always has a great softball attitude and that’s what makes her an even better player and teammate. Keep fighting Abby!
Alina Pavlovich – Dirt Diamonds
Alina had a great softball weekend. At the plate, Alina was swinging the big bat Saturday with a few hits including a huge double into the right center gap. She also saved a run with her cannon arm from right field. In the dugout, she’s always cheering for her team and keeping a positive attitude! She has really become a leader on this team and we’re so proud of her improvements.
Makenzie Eberly – Bombers
MJ had an amazing 2 games. At the plate she was 3-3 with a single and two HR’s, one of which was a grand slam! She drove in a total of 8 runs on the day. Behind the plate at catcher she made a great catch in foul territory to end the game and seal the win for her team.
Hailey Gutierrez – Cyclones
Along with her stellar play at first base and her great attitude in the dugout she went 7 for 7 at the plate. She had two doubles, a triple and a grand slam over the fence home run that cleared the fence by 15 feet. She had 8 RBI’s for the day. A huge bat and huge reason we won both games.
Adrian Powell – Crusaders
Adrian also defended her position at shortstop with 7 putouts over the 2 games. Way to go Adrian!
This week the fighting Squirrels are super excited to nominate an amazing young lady for Player of the Week. This girl new to our team this season and has quickly proven herself to be a competent catcher and so much more. She goes about her business with a great attitude, a willingness to learn, and a sure sense of the word team. Even though she is quiet and unassuming, she has quickly made friends with all her teammates and always has a smile ready.
This week as our season rolls on, she caught a great game, had some amazing plays at short, and was an absolute beast at the plate. Her pitchers know they can rely on her to make some great digs on a pitch that gets away and she saved many runs from scoring with her great drop and block skills. Any ball that comes her way at shortstop is almost a sure out with her grace under pressure. She gets in the box and gets out of her slapping comfort zone when Coach Nick needs her to hit instead. This week she came up big with at least one triple and a hit at every at bat.
Olly Aionakka, The Fighting Squirrels are so glad you landed in our little Nuthouse! Welcome to the team, kiddo. Keep up the good work!
*Editor’s note – We don’t usually do multiple POW’s for a division, but wow… great job girls!
Vanessa Navratil – Bandits
Vanessa Navratil had a foot surgery on Monday and had to wear flip flops until Wednesday and is still healing from the surgery. On Saturday she threw six innings against two of the best teams in the division. She was able to hold her opponent to one run over three innings in the first game. In the second game, Vanessa was a drop third completion away from holding the Bandits’ opponent to one run over three innings. She had three hits over the two games and scored a run at the plate as well. Great Job V!
Samantha Moon – LV Force
Erica Nichols – Cyclones
Player of the Week nominations are submitted by the head coach to their division representative. NWGS then selects a Player of the Week for each division.
