Player of the Week – Week 5

6U

Lois Goldner – Starfire

Lois was chosen for her outstanding performance both at practice and during the games. She is always focused while playing in the field and did an excellent job batting. Lois has greatly improved during the course of this season, which was clear this week. Keep up the good work Lois!

8U

Gabriela Fernandez  – Riptide

Gabi had an outstanding week of softball. She went 4-4 at the plate with a walk and hit by pitch. This includes 2 singles, 2 doubles, 5 runs scored, and 5 stolen bases. It’s possible that Gabi has the hottest bat in the league right now. Yesterday was also Gabi’s birthday. Happy Birthday Gabi!

10B

Kayden Amick – Dirt Diamonds

Where do I start? Kayden has battled since week one with a finger injury. Even playing with nine fingers she’s been able to put that bat to use and dominate on the base path. She also has been on fire in the circle. This week she pitched a total of six innings in two games and didn’t allow a single run. In the dugout she is a positive motivator with skittles or gum and is always ready to help cheer her team on.

10C

Marlee Garibay – Desert Fury

At the end of the spring season Marlee decided she wanted to catch. She put in the work over the summer to prove that she could. She goes to her pitcher’s lessons to catch for them. This week Marlee was a beast behind the plate jumping for and blocking balls. She helped lead her team to 3 victories. She caught max outs this week and had her 1st thrown down from home to 3rd that lead to an out.  Keep up the hard work! Great job Marshmallow #28

12B

Kristin Raudez – GirlSox

Kristin was a force to be reckoned with behind the plate catching 8 of the allowed 9 innings in a 3 game week. She had 3 putouts on throw downs and caught a girl trying to steal home. She was also a powerhouse at the plate making 7 appearances with 4 hits, getting 2 singles, a triple and and in-the-park home run with 2 RBIs as well as a walk. She was very instrumental in helping her team earn their 3 victories this week. Great job, Kristin!

12C

Mia Rodriguez – Bandits

Mia is playing her first season of league softball having only done it a few times in a PE class at school before coming to NWGS. She’s worked very hard to learn the game and comes to practice every week with a great attitude. This week in a very close game Mia had TWO huge hits and scored a run and had an RBI(her first two hits since the first game). She also made a very dramatic and HUGE catch in the outfield of a very well hit ball saving the game for the Bandits. It was like a dramatic ending to a Hollywood movie.

Her entire team lobbied for her to win player of the game and actually announced it for her at the end of the game. I don’t think she knew she was going to get it either and it was the easiest call of the season for her coach.

14U

Chevelle Gulley – LV Force

We’d like to nominate Chevelle “Chevy” Gulley this week.  She had a huge weekend for us with 7 at bats and 5 RBIs. She had a huge stand up double when we were down by 2 runs, to tie the game. Then had a beautiful delayed steal going home to take the win. Great job Chevy!!! Super proud of you this season

16/18U

Halyi Greenberg – Cyclones

Cyclones would like to nominate Halyi Greenberg for player of the week. Along with pitching a great game Saturday in which she had 6 strikeouts and had a no hitter through 4 and two thirds, she was a force at the plate. She went 4 for 5 this week with two doubles and 5 rbi’s. Until she finally got out on Wednesday night she had 11 straight hits dating back into last week. Great job Hayli!!!

Player of the Week nominations are submitted by the head coach to their division representative. NWGS then selects a Player of the Week for each division.
